Display suddenly goes off but cpu & gpu still running

This strange problem started few days ago. When the PC is on for some time, suddenly the display goes off but CPU , GPU , keyboard lights, CDROM are still on and HDD light goes off. Then the PC won't start again for 20-30 mins. I bought new PSU and removed the GPU but still display goes off.
What could be the problem?

Ati radeon HD 5670 gddr5
2 GB ddr2 ram
Old ide HDD 80gb
500w psu

Drivers are up to date and checked connections also.





I bought new HDD and the PC ran without any problem but now again the same problem, black screen. Display comes only when PC is started after half an hour.
My CPU overheats so can this be the problem, if yes then how is the CPU fan running? I don't think my PSU and HDD are faulty. So what can be the problem?
