What's your use case scenario?

Gaming: Go with the 4670k, hyper threading isnt really used in games, and performance per clock is higher than AMD.

Video Editing, Streaming, Photo Editing: Go with the FX 8350, better performance with the 8 cores with accelerates the process.

If you already own an FX 8350 however, I'd just say stick with it: not really worth upgrading at this time.

Can you suggest a board then? Also, if I get heatsinks and fans pointed at all VRMs, will that make it better?

something like this it has 8+2 phases. I dont think its really worth 150 dollars for 600mhz

So why is my board so bad exactly?

Actually I though you had something different. I just looked up you exact model and it is not suitable for any overclocking
http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

Find it in the chart. Its not even recommended for 125w cpus.

its 3+1 power phase

It even advertised that it works with an FX 8350 and can overclock...wow. False advertisement? Should I return it?

Also, what is the power phase exactly?

LOLOLOLOL!!! You thought you were gonna hit 5Ghz with that Motherboard?!?

No son! You gotta get a 990FX at least for that.

You're best off getting a i7 if you want the best performance on a micro ATX platform. Well, you could also wait for AMD Kaveri. But I suspect you already have a GPU you're using. So I say go with a i7 4770K.

I already have this board and FX 8350. How much do you think I can OC it? I have a heatsink on the VRM's and fan pointed at it.

That's what I had in the original post. Anything to watch out for while OC'ing? Like failure points? VRM overheating?

It was fine for 2 mo. on its own. Then ingames the GPU usage dropped from CPU throttling, from the VRM's over heating. Idle desktop for 5 min, they would get to 150F. Then I put heatsink on them and let prime95 run for 8+hrs and it was 110-120F. Haven't had a problem since. What is a good temp for VRM's to be at when OC'ing?

Out of those, which one is the cheapest for Overclocking?

Let me ask you some question - what do you expect with overclocking?

By now it is pretty much an established fact that anything beyond 4.4GHz for you will require a significant investment...

So realistically, you will buy a new board and possibly a new fan and you will get to 4.4GHz (maybe). Let me tell you - the actual performance difference for you will be like 5%... You won't feel it.

Just try to bump it to 4.2GHz with whatever you have now and be done with it. That's my advice.

Sounds like the best Idea for now. I will get a better board in the future though.

instead of wasting money on an over rated cooler like the h100i you could buy a cooler which is sufficient to overclock that cpu anyway like a 212x and buy a decent motherboard. you aren't overclocking anything with 3+1 vrm

to be honest, if this OC dream of yours is for gaming, dont waste your time or money on motherboards and coolers, your 7850 gpu will be holding you back way more than the cpu ever could. Focus on upgrading that.

get a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R 2.0 MOBO its a beast and I love it. Got my mom a ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 with a fx-4300 should last forever for her.
sabertooth has 8+2 power phase and military class components with a 5 year warranty.
