7970 crossfire vs r9 290x

ok so i have a 7970 non GE and im looking to upgrade it for future games and eventually 3 monitors. so the question is which do you think is better, dual 7970s, 7970/r9 280/X or r9 290X?

Other Specs are:
AMD FX 8350
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
8 gb ram 1600
750w 80+gold psu

Since your PSU can handle it I would go with the 2 x 7970. The 290X is still a little unknown size so hard to recommend until official reviews.

well i dont plan to get it until atleast Xmas and i was think of get the r9 290x because i am still fairly new to pc gaming and im not to sure about crossfiring yet

I would recommend pairing up your existing 7970 with another non GE 7970, the cheapest one you could find on sale or something. Would not gain much with a 280x, in XF they run as fast as the slowest one anyway. That should game you well for some time, much cheaper then a 290x.

And i believe battlefield 4 comes with it.

Go with a r9 280X and crossfire that with your HD 7970. It'll be cheaper and offer more performance. Especially with MANTLE.

Mantle works with the 7970, also if he paired it with a 280x it would still clock itself to match the 7970 so there is little reason to get a 280x. Go ahead and get another 7970 and enjoy!
