Hello everyone,
I am trying to find a good controller that could work in my dual-boot Windows 8.1 / Ubuntu 13.10 System.
It ideally has 8 SATA ports, and works on a pcie x8 slot. I have found the following:
LSI 9211-8i
LSI 9260-8i

But I'm not sure if either of these choices are the right way to go!
For background, I have an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme mobo, and am looking to put in 8x3TB or 8x4TB. all current SATA ports are full :(

Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

IBM M1015 flashed to IT mode for just 8 sata ports. $100 on auction sites. You'll need sata breakout cables.

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 and SAS2LP-MV8 are about $100 new but does not support raid and the latest firmware supports large drives

Their AOC-USAS2-L8i ($140 new) supports raid0/1 well (dont waste your time trying to run raid5 or 6) is an LSI card but is meant for a server so to use it in a standard pc you will need to change the bracket (not included) or modify the existing one to work on a pc. This can also be flashed to IT mode for just sata ports.

Edit - please do your research, some card do not work well if there are other controllers on your motherbd, like marvell, asmedia, jmicron...
