Hi Guys
I plan on building a new system within the next month. I have a couple questions and I'm also just open to other recommendations.
I've been researching for the last few weeks and it looks like the best thing for me is an i7-4770k and an Asus z87-a, -k, or -pro, motherboard
Those ROG Maximum Hero boards "sound" really nice, but I can't really see where it's worth such a big increase in cost? Are they mainly just for people looking to make OC records?
I am into games, and want to run win8 as fast as possible. (boot & load times.)
I will likely make minor threading increases. (I think to 3.9?)
I'm confused on the memory. I've read different things. I've read that it's optimal just to get DDR3 1600mhz memory for a 4770k. But I see many 1150 mboards mention support for memory up to 2800+mhz and I've read forums where people suggest getting 2100/2400mhz memory for this cpu. Some websites have the higher memory listed under "performance gaming memory"...which makes it sound superior.
Does faster memory mean increased demand on your cpu?
(When I was messing with my current amd 965 black, I think I was having issues when I had my memory AND cpu overclocked. When I upped my memory to 1600mhz and the cpu to 4.0, it was much hotter and unstable. CPU back to 3.4 & mem @ 1600 was stable. Or, memory back to 1333, and cpu to 4.0 was stable. but upping both caused problems)
I plan on getting a gtx 770. (this card would be very sufficient, and I'd likely never need to SLI this, right?) I'm unsure on which way to go with the psu and cooler (750w? 850w? and does the manufacturer matter for psus? I see a big price range for psus with the same wattage)
I'm not sure how I feel about installing a water cooling myself. so I'd just like to get the best possible, most quiet air cooler.
Thanks for reading
