please help with CPU (experts please)

hi guys, thanks in advance for reading this and hopefully i can decide what to do thourgh your replies.

there are so many cpu's out there and i dont know which one to get.
ive made up my mind that i want an intel.
i also have a budget of 350-400.

would the higher number mean the cpu is better such as " Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz to 3.9

or this one would be better because it has a turbo boost "Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost)"

its mainly for gaming.

Honestly, hyperthreading doesn't really add much in games and I don't see it being more than a 10-20% increase in performance. You are paying a premium for it with an i7. Besides, even if it added 40% in gaming (which i don't think you'd ever see) an i5 will be more than capable of running next gen games. It is quite the powerful little cpu.

Take the money saved and get an SSD or save it for a better graphics card or something. You'll get far more noticeable performance out of doing that than getting an i7

I wouldn't say "wrong"

But it matters how long you want it to last. Next-gen is only around the corner, and so is Maxwell. If you feel like droppin the dough, get the i7-4770k.

thanks a lot for the comments...i think ill go with the i7. now i need a motherboard which is another question on which one will be good to work with the i7.
im so puzzeled because on newegg there some good reviews and some bad so idk if i should invest 300-400 on a motherboard or if a 200 dollar motherboard will be sufficent.

current setup: *Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor.

*Evga 780 SLI Motherboard

*G.Skill 8gb of ram

*Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Sound Card

*EVGA GeForce GTX 670

*Antec HCP-1200 Platinum 1200W Yes Yes 80 PLUS Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

*ZALMAN 135mm Long life bearing CPU Cooler Blue LED

*Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10000 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

*Thermaltake Armor Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

so i thought i can swap out the old cpu, the memory and motherboard.

what do you think?
because the power supply is like 3 months old and then video card maybe 5 months old
