I need a gpu for 1440p gaming, I would like to get as much performance possible from one card. Would like to max out some games at 60fps at 2560x1440. Do you guys think the R9-290X will do? I know I will have to lower down some Anti Aliasing in some games. Do you guys think a GTX 770 4GB SLI is worth it?

Don't get the highest end GPUs they're always overpriced, if you want to game on 60fps with most games mostly on high settings 280x is the way to go. If you want the absolute best performance like 60fps+ and ultra settings, you would wanna go with 2x r9 280x(s).

770 won't get you the power you need at 1440p at max settings for some games. The R9-290X probably will be sufficient for most games if you leave AA off.

For reference I've done benchmarking on my own with one GTX 780 at 1440p, and the 780 can handle every game I've tested except Crysis 3 at max settings with 40+ FPS, and most games run at 60+ FPS. The R9 290X looks like it will perform better than the 780 from the leaked benchmarks, so it will likely be a good single-card solution for you.

Go for the best GPU out while keeping dual option in mind down the road. Get either the R9-290X or GTX 780, and get another in the future when you need them. If you can afford one, go for one. If you can't then go for the 770 SLI, though as 770 is $400 as far as I know, then just going for R9-290X or GTX 780 seems like the smart choice.

A R9 290x,780,2 way 760s/770s would be good at 1440p resolution but it all depends on what you want out of your performance.

LMAO I have an i7-4770k and I want to OC in the future--- and I chose a Gtx 780 (which arrived earlier today)-- and I didn't want one of those molten lava r9 cards next to my sweet love child Haswell i7 --(haswell is already hot lol) --- I am very happy with my choice as now I can SLI it in the future along with my overclock---- I need to buy a 1440p monitor first though

All I'm gonna say is by my experience, AMD cpu and gpu is perfect on 1440p+ resolutions. i7 4770k 1440p benchmarks only wins by 1 to 7 fps vs the fx 8350. Same goes to the gpus. Before you call me a fanboy, I don't have neither of those. Well I'm using a very old intel pentium core 2 duo.

I still wouldnt go with they gpus as for my pref..AMD im sure they make good gpus but they drivers/crossfire isnt what they should be compared to nvidia and at the end of the day i want a solid card with great drivers and and muti gpu support and thats where nvidia/sli hits.

2 r9 290 or r9 290x cards will run as hot as the sun ---- 1 is already too hot and too much power--- in crossfie you will have amazong power--- but super heat and power consumption-- that is why I bought a gtx 780 :)

And on top of that you wont have to worry about crossfire drivers

That's why you don't get the reference design. I think the non-reference models will be just fine.
