I just upgraded from an 256mb ATI Raedion 2400HD Graphics card to a 1GB Nvidia Geforce 210 but im having a problem my CPU is hitting 40-50% when idle and capping 100% when i just try to run Facebook now i have un-installed all of the old GPU drivers and the on board GPU then installed everything for the new one followed all the steps to the letter so there shouldn't be any problem i have also searched allover the net for an explanation and solution to this problem but have been unable to find one can anyone help me please.

System Spec

  • Windows 7 x64 bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.2GHz

First, which operating system you're using? k If it's windows 7 or 8 then go to task manager by just right clicking on taskbar and select task manager or you can press CTRL+ALT+DEL key from key board and select task manager, in process tab check which process is eating CPU then just right click on that and end task. let me know if CPU Usage go down.

Already tried that and was still the same the CPU usage drops back down to 2-3% idle when i put my old GPU back in though so im thinking it is either a bad GPU or my Drivers are conflicting.

you bought new card or used one? if it's new and in warranty then you can replace. Also have you checked it on any other PC? try checking it on your friend's PC and see if it still make CPU crazy.

Yes i got it from a Shop new and actually i dont know why i didnt think of testing it on another PC my brother has the next model down from my PC i will just test on his and i will tell you if it works.

Were you having the same problem before you "upgraded"? I only ask because the GeForce 210 is so small of an upgrade from the Radeon HD 2400 that it's not even worth paying for. Upgrading from an HD 7750 to just an HD 7770 is literally TEN TIMES the upgrade of what you just did.
Passmark scores:
HD 2400 = 137
GeForce 210 = 184
Difference = 47 pts

HD 7750 = 1627
HD 7770 = 2156
Difference = 469

The reason you're still getting such high CPU usage is that your new GPU is essentially the exact same speed as your old one. Sure, it's about 25% faster but 25% of nothing is still nothing. The GeForce 210 is still regarded as one of the weakest discrete GPUs on the planet. The HD 5450 that you can buy from newegg for $9 after rebate is more powerful with a score of 234.

My CPU usage with my old Raedion 2400 was only 2-3% Idle and when running a game it would go to a max of 60% but with the Geforce 210 it is constant 40-50% and i cannot even play games and i only paid £20 for the card.

ah DPC is the problem. it usually happens when you change from amd to nvidia and vise versa. Uninstall Drivers, remove card. Install second card(AMD) run the PC and shutdown and reinstall Nvidia card n drivers. tell me what happens.

Well i found the problem and it is now sorted it turns out that the Graphics card doubles up as a Sound card so it was conflicting with my Onboard sound card drivers so i just had to disable one of them and there you go runs perfect now :D
