I'm torn between the two headsets and I would like some opinions. I'm pairing these with a aus xonar essence stx. The A500x are closed back and the AD700x are open back. Can someone clarify what this means, so far I know open back allows you to be more immersed in what you're listening to. The price difference is not much just $10.
Games I play are mainly fps(bf3&4)
Thanks!

Since you're going to be gaming and likely playing for long periods of time, you will want the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones http://amzn.to/1awQUwS As oczdude8 mentioned, they will be much more comfortable allowing airflow through the headset and have better sound quality.

Open back headphones provide a more natural sound, while closed back headphones reduce sound leakage (i.e. the person beside you cant hear what you are listening to.)

Closed back headphones are not good for regular use, since they tend to become hot inside (since they are insulated to prevent sound from escaping). closed back headphones are good for recording studios, where they don't want the mic picking up what's being playing in the headphone.

Open back headhpones produce a "natural" and "open" sound and are better suited for regular usage. they are also more comfortable.

I suggest the open-back headphone for gaming.
