Hello guys,

I'm having a problem with my computer. When I open device manager, it lists all my networking devices as unknown, this includes the Wireless USB adapter I use to connect, the LAN adapter on my motherboard, as well as WAN Miniport devices.

Despite reinstalling drivers for both the adapters, They always show as unknown. When installing the latest drivers downloaded from the manufacturers website, I get an error code 31.

I've googled this and tried various solutions including:
Reinstalling in safe mode
Uninstalling the most recent Windows updates
Disabling and enabling the LAN adapter in the BIOS
Using the Wireless USB adapter in different USB ports
Deleting the 'upper filters' and 'lower filters' in the registry (method described here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/error-31-when-trying-to-install-a-usb-wireless/22976678-bf4a-4ba7-93ad-9e6280c91fd8 )
System restore to a time before it stopped working
System repair from the windows disk
Antivirus and malware scans

All this to no avail, In short I've done everything except a full OS reinstall. I'd rather this be the absolute last resort, as I was planning a fresh install when I upgrade my HDD which I'm not planning to do for at least a few more months and also because it's a lengthy process that I'd rather not do.

I use the Wireless adapter because the router is in another part of the house, I'd been using it for months with no issue. I've tried it on another laptop and it works+installs fine, so I'm positive it's a software issue on my computer. I find it suspicious that non physical devices like the WAN Miniports are also unknown, makes me think something's gone wrong deep within Windows itself rather than the devices.

Any suggestions?
Thank you!
