I have the Asus VG248QE monitor. on the Bic it says it's an LCD monitor but it also says it has Led back lighting. can somebody look up this monitor and tell me if it's led or LCD because I thought led back-lit meant led and now I'm confused because it says it's LCD

Solution
Yeah, the problem here is that you have fallen victim to advertising. Any TV/monitor labeled "LED" simply means it has LED back-lighting instead of CCFL (cathodes) back-lighting, NOT that it actually uses LEDs IN the display panel. As puff said, the only time you'll find a display that actually uses light-emitting diodes instead of liquid crystal technology is when when it is an Organic LED (OLED) display, which atm you can really only find on phones and some other small electronics. If you find a TV or monitor labeled "LED" and it is doesn't cost thousands - tens of thousands of dollars, chances are it's just LED backlit and not an LED display panel.

It is an LED-backlit LCD monitor. It uses liquid crystals to adjust the colors on the display and LED lighting to provide the light that shines through the crystals and allows you to actually see the image.

EDIT:
Some more clarification. When people say "LED Monitor" they are almost always referring to LED-backlit LCD monitors, as these are the most common type of LCD monitors nowadays.

Now there are what you might call "true LED" monitors where LED instead of LCD technology is used to color the display. These are called OLED monitors and they are insanely expensive. 20-inch OLED monitors can go for $3000 or more. They are not widely available because of their price.

As I said, the Asus monitor is an LED-backlit LCD monitor. Whether you want to call it an "LED monitor" is a matter of semantics.

LED-backlit LCD monitors are the most common type of LCD monitors and their quality is just fine.
