Overclocking AMD 6300 with mobo gigabyte 78lmt usb3

I have a gigabyte mobo 78lmt-usb3 with a AMD 6300 fx processor,i want to overclock this cpu but im not sure what results i should expect because im not sure if my mobo is seriously going to reduce any overclock ability,at the moment im using the stock cooler that came with the cpu but i have a Arctic cooler freezer 13 on order which should be here soon,

So id like to know:

What results can i expect when i try to overclock my cpu with the arctic cooler

Am i wasting my time trying to overclock because my mobo is good enough

Any advice tips or tricks would be very appreciated

Ive managed to get it up to 4.5ghz but i didnt trust the temps so i lowered it to 4.3ghz which run at 35-40c on idle and no higher than 70c under stress,I must also stress that i used AMD overdrive and let it autoclock my cpu as im not 100% sure what im doing,My system hasnt melted yet so the signs are good so far,I did try overclocking in the bios but my fan just went crazy and it scared me so i set it all back to default quickly just incase i was damaging my system.
