Hi guys would like some advise will a qx6850 extreme overclocked @ 3.6 ghz bottleneck 2
ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 running in sli mode?...i bought one card after ripping out my old pair of gtx8800 and the difference was unbelievable graphics compared to what i did have, i can play a lot of games maxed out now...however 4 weeks ago had a heart attack so i am not working now due to recovery and my sister has bought me a second ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 from ebay cos shes a lovely sister and knows i don't have much money to throw around right now, anyhow the second card should arrive on Monday and i was wondering if my cpu will handle 2 in sli mode? also does it task your cpu harder having 2 graphics cards in sli mode? or does the fact you now have 2 gpu,s take work load from your cpu allowing you to have more fps?...i have just started playing bf3 and my set up with just the one card is playing it just fine with most settings on ultra..my rig has 8gig ddr2 ram, 1000 watt psu and a nForce 680i LT motherboard

Firstly, sorry to hear about your heart attack and hope you have a speedy recovery.
I believe your system will run just fine with the 2 660's in SLI.
My older system was similar to yours and I was running 560ti in SLI. I had no bottleneck and it played BF3 perfectly.
You have enough RAM and a decent overclock on a Quad core so I believe you are ok.

Thanks guys i am now really really looking forward to my second ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5...do u think i will see much of a improvement with fps...right now bf3 is runing on average 40 FPS....also does having 2 graphics cards require less work from your cpu...is that how it works?

You will definitely see a good improvement in FPS in BF3 going from a single 660 to 660 SLI

Answer to the cpu usage with another card is a good question , depends on the cpu you have and the games you play.
With your cpu it may increase usage with the second card which is ok as long as it doesn't top out and bottleneck.
I believe you will be fine with the cpu usage in BF3 with the SLI.

monsta was right!....As you can see from the screen shot below the old core 2 QX6850 extreme @ 3.6ghz seems more than capable of pushing along 2 gtx 660,s in sli...in ultra mode on BF3...i am in no hurry to get rid of my old QX6850 at the moment!

Well it is doing better then I expected but something like an i5 4430 will be a huge upgrade. 80% and 84% gpu load in an uncrowded area makes me think it will be a huge bottleneck in multiplayer. In fact my i5 4430 with one gtx670 is near limit in cpu intensive games I play so I would suggest you get something like an i5 4570 with a socket 1150 mobo.

Hows your fps with lots of players onscreen or in multiplayer. Singleplayer works fine even on pentium or celeron or core 2 duo dual cores.

Soon as you have two gtx660 in sli it seems a waste pairing up with a 7 year old cpu and ddr2 ram.

my fps with lots of players and online is about 40fps average so i am sure there's a bit of bottle-necking going on...however 4 weeks ago i had a heart attack even though i worked out 4 times aweek was lifting 100kg and was running up to 5 miles 5 nights a week!...i went to my Doctor complaining of a burning feeling in my chest and throat and an aching in my left arm and he told me i had acid reflux! anyhow i carried on with this pain coming and going for 2 weeks then on the second week it woke me up at 3.30 on a saturday morning and i just carried on the day as it was my mums birthday and i had to meet my family at mothers for the day, that evening the pain still had not gone so Saturday night i drove myself to A&E and was told i was having a heart attack! the whole of the front artery in my heart had collapsed!, anyhow i am a truck driver so i lost my license while i recover so therefore i can not really be spending to much money on my pc right now....also its a dell 720 xps with a btx motherboard so an atx board wont even fit in it...so i am kinda stuffed..if i knew of a btx board that would fit it i would probably get one..any suggestions of a cheap upgrade?...dont think any btx board would fit a i5?
