7790 2gb or 7850 1gb?

I want to upgrade my Radeon HD 5670. Should I buy a Radeon HD 7790 with 2gb of memory, or a Radeon HD 7850 with 1gb of memory? I'd like to play games like BF4 in 1080p (1920x1080). I have 8gbs of memory and an Intel i5 3470.

  1. 1080p, that will need 2 GB. Take the HD7790 2GB.
  2. You would be much better off with a 7850 2GB if its in your budget.
Heres one for $119 after rebate if you live in the US

  3. The HD7850 will outperform the HD7790; it's simply a stronger card. Were it to lag due to memory limitations, reducing AA will take care of it.
And, monsta, that's funny; you gave a Canadian Newegg link.

I have found that even in low AA situation, a 1GB card just does not keep up in newer games.
It runs slower in general but the drops are less and less jerky.

    if that makes sense:D
  5. You could go for a GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2 GB model, they are coming down in price and blow the HD 7790 out of the water and are pretty much tied with the HD 7850 2 GB edition.
  6. Haha see that's why I said if you are in the USA, I got lazy and didn't look at his profile.LOL

Thats why I suggest the 7850 2Gb, you need the 2GB for that res in Bf4, and the 7850 is a stronger card, so it will perform much better.
  7. I don't live in the USA, I live in Europe.
GAINWARD GEF. 650GTX TI BOOST 2GB DDR5 PCIe HDMI GOLDESN SAMPLE : ~230$

    SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON PCX HD7850 1 GB DDR5 :~ 205$

    SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON PCX HD7790 2 GB DDR5:~ 185$

    VTX3D ATI HD 6850 1GB DDR5 X Edition: ~ 180$

    SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON PCX HD7850 2 GB DDR5 OC: ~ 230$

    Which one should i choose?
  8. Go for the Gainward GTX 650ti Boost, you are going to need the 2GB and it will perform better than the others.
    Where in Europe are you?
  9. Hungary.
  10. I agree, the GTX650Ti Boost is a little stronger than the HD7850. This is per a HardOCP review. The difference wasn't great, and both cards could play on the same settings.
  11. And how well can a 7790 2gb run BF4?
  12. A little better than you see here :

I'm sure it can run it, on "enjoyable" settings, but notably lower than the other cards can run it (except the HD6850; that's the weakest one you've listed). If your budget is tight, it will be sufficient.
Edit: beaten to the punch with good data. Note that the GTX650Ti Boost isn't listed, but would be closer to the GTX660 than to the GTX650Ti. Note that a GTX650Ti NON-Boost beating a HD7790 is an exception though, not the rule. If BF4 is the only game that interest you though, you might get a GTX650Ti cheaper than the others.
  14. You could even consider the 660 for even better performance , found this on amazon for about 168 Euro
