Hi, i am having troubles with one of my internal hard drives on my ASUS G74SX-BKK7 laptop.

Out of nowhere the HDD just disappears from 'My Computer' and when i open up Disk Management it is no longer there, it just completely disappears. This has happened quite a few times. One time i was moving a lot of mp3 files (about 10,000 songs) to a external HDD and it stopped at the 60% mark and stays there for a few minutes, then it stops copying thef iles and tells me the file cannot be found. I open up my computer and realize the internal HDD is missing. The other time i was playing a game (League Of Legends) and while in-game the computer freezes and i had wait about 2 minutes for the computer to stabilize only to tell me that the game crashed and it can no longer be located. It seems that the Internal HDD randomly disappears no matter what i'm doing.

The only way to get the HDD back is to restart my computer again and that is a real pain.

Please someone help me.

Those warning messages mean that this HDD is DYING! Back it up right away, as soon as you can...

Hi again, I finally got to use the CrystalDiskInfo software you linked me and the hard drive disk that is having issues is: ST9500423AS 500.1GB. The health status on it says 'Caution' while the other 2 internal hard drives are 'Good'.

These are the cautions:

C5 - Current Pending Sector Count - 100 - 100 - 0 - 0000000000008
C6 - Uncorrectable Sector Count - 100 - 100 - 0 - 000000000008

What can you make of this? What actions should i take to repair this issue? Does my laptop need to be physically opened and repaired?

Those warning messages mean that this HDD is DYING! Back it up right away, as soon as you can. It may fail today or it may work in this crippled mode for another six months, there is no way to tell. It would be best to replace it before the problems get worse.

Is it under warranty?

Its looks like the drive is faulty, but I am not sure, please post a screenshot of it. Backup your data to be safe. Your laptop has nothing to do with it, its a HDD failure issue. Your laptop is fine, you may just need to replace the HDD and nothing else.

That's not good at all. I already have backed up my important files onto an external HDD. I also ran chkdsk.exe and it fixed some bad sectors but still gave me a 'Caution' status in CrystalDiskInfo.

I don't think the HDD can be fixed according to Y0GI. I have already backed up everything and i will be looking for another HDD. It's just sad that i lose 500GB already when I've only had this laptop for 2 years.

Thanks for the help

Yep this happens to me. It only happened once or twice when I 1st got it. But it solved itself. A few months went by and then it happened constantly for a week. Then it stopped happening for awhile. Now today No matter how many restarts they either dont show up. OR they show up and then like 5 minutes later disappear. ASUS normally really makes some good stuff but this got me thinking twice. Cant send off my laptop due to school and work.
