Incorrect based on the beta. The i7 is indeed faster than the i5 in BF4. Toms only did rudimentary testing on this, and in an unpopulated server.

In my own testing, I got about a 15% performance boost from HT enabled vs disabled (I posted my tests in the comments on the Toms article you linked), and with HT disabled there was some annoying hitching (which may have been a beta specific optimization issue).

Long story short: If you have the cash, get the i7 over the i5.

Basing FPS calculations on online games with 64 other people introduces a whole other set of variables that cannot be accounted for. If you read that whole thread you will see there is quite a lot of disagreement with some people actually getting LOWER FPS with HT turned on.

Of course if money is no issue you might get the i7, and a couple Titans to go with it. No official benchmarks of BF4 are out yet but there is no data currently supporting inceased performance of an i7 over i5.

#1) 64-man MP is what needs the extra CPU power. Empty servers and/or single player are not relevant benchmarks for CPUs.

#2) O RLY? In addition to what I already posted...

The i7 is the better performer in BF4. No reason to buy an i5 if you can shell out the extra $100 for the i7. We're not talking about multiple Titans here. We're talking about a ~$220 vs a ~$320 CPU. Not that big a jump and no reason not to make it if you can afford a $400 GPU already.

Yes you are right. The i7-4770K gets a massive 1FPS lead over the i5-4670K. The i7-3770K gets 0.5 FPS or less over the i5-3570K. This difference is negligible. OP was asking if he would get an improvement of over 7FPS. I stand by my position. NO.

Yeah, you guys present a compelling case to buy the i5 instead.

OP, if you plan on playing unmanned servers, don't mind the possibility of a stuttery game, and enjoy getting the second best experience available to you, you should absolutely opt for an i5 over an i7.

I just think there are better ways of spending 100$ than getting a 1 FPS increase, at this price even a GTX Titan seems like an awesome deal, I'm sure that 1000$ would get you more than an extra 10 FPS.
