You should not need to update the BIOS to install windows 8.

Will there be compatibility issues?

Ok, let me clarify. If your motherboard and BIOS are super old, you may run into compatibility issues.

Specifically, windows 8 requires your BIOS to have something called DEP enabled. So make sure that is the case before trying to install windows 8.

What motherboard and BIOS revision do you have currently?

I wouldn't need a boot drive to get into the bios, so i can just flash the latest bios and windows 8 compatible update right? My bios hasn't been updated since i bought it.(launch period)

Yes, you can flash your BIOS with just the mobo and a PSU. You don't even need to turn the computer on to do it.
