Additional RAM re-set my overclock

Hi

I added some extra RAM the other day (exactly the same as was in there before) and when I turned the PC on after that I got "boot mgr is missing" error. I can get the system to boot by selecting another drive, one I only use for games. The os is on the C drive but I get the error when booting from that (it was fine before).

I spotted my previous oc on a 3770k of 4.4 ghz was gone but the voltage was still at 1.35. I'm not too hot on overclocking and bought a pre oc'd mobo bundle.

After another restart the voltage went down to about 1.1. I've got it running at 4.2ghz now at 1.2v using asus auto tune.

As it was running at 4.4ghz at 1.35v before do you think i'm ok just to put the settings back to that? Or would it just be best to leave it at 4.2 ghz at 1.2v for now.

I dont want to take it too far where it will be impossible to get the machine to post. The most cpu intensive thing i'll be doing is running battlefield 4 with dual 780's in sli so would 4.2 be enough for now?

Sorry for long post!

Thanks

Sure, 4.2 should be good, then just build the OC back up as time permits, jot down your settings as you OC back up so you have fallback

Thanks, does 1.3-1.35 volts sound about normal for a 4.4ghz overclock?

It varies alot have seen both higher and lower for that, some CPUs in a given model OC extremely well at low voltage other take much more voltage - Asus did some testing with a couple hundred 4770K and had very interesting results -

Thanks a lot for the link. Mine was on 1.3ish volts at 4.4ghz before, should I be ok just to apply those settings again and be ok? I guess i'll have to keep an eye on the temps too just to be on the safe side.

Sounds like you have a plan, yep, that's a good approach
