I have my ram speed set to 2133 in BIOS, but it still shows up in Win 8.1 system info and in the ASUS AI Suite utility as 1600. Is it possible that the ram is being underclocked once Windows starts via the UEFI bios or is the ram just reporting itself as 1600 even though it is clocked at 2133? Shouldn't this ram just be detected from the beginning as 2133 without having to manually clock it in BIOS or is that not correct?

Ram is G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL.

Motherboard is ASUS A88XM-A

CPU is AMD A10-6800K.

Software is fully updated Win 8.1 and all updated drivers installed from ASUS's web site.

Solution
Yes the DRAM is - but.....when initially installed it will boot to the mobos default, if it tried to boot straight to 2133 it prob wouldn't work with most all systems, many CPUs can't even run 2133, and others require a OC to to run DRAM that fast. the DRAM has a section in the SPD that defines it's preferred default so the bIOS can use it if possible, once passt the initial install, you set the DRAM to it's prpoer freq

They may well be looking at the initial boot freq of the DRAM from the SPD which is often 1333 or 1600, can see it also in CPU-Z, over in the SPD tab, the MAX Bandwidth pane, where it shows like PC3-12800 or whatever, that's actually the MAX it can boot to on initial install
