is the r9 280x the same as a HD 7970 or the GHZ edition?

Hello, just a quick question as I am looking at different peoples views,

Is the new r9 280x GPU the same as the basic 7970 or is it equal or better then the GHZ edition?

I have seen people saying its only the same as the normal 7970, Opinions please.

It's a 7970 with higher clocks (pretty much same performance as the ghz edition).

HD7970GHz was a top end card and got replaced at the top price range with R9 290 so the R9 280X is no longer top dog and takes a price dip! Actually been going on for years both major manufacturers as new generations come out.

Was made cheaper to keep it competitive in the market. The name change was to match their rebranding from the old naming scheme to the new naming scheme. At the time they didnt have the Tonga chips ready (r9 285 and 380) to replace it.
