Need help copying or watching files from My Passport to my computer

I have no computer skills whatsoever and am having trouble with My Passport. It was given to me as a gift with movies and tv shows on it, but I am not able to play them on my computer (I think because it's a PC). I have read directions on reformatting the passport, but they've all said I'd have to delete the files that are on it and I don't want to do that. I've tried copying the files to my computer but then a pop-up comes up saying there's not enough disk space. I really don't know any computer lingo so it's been hard to figure out what to do from reading other people's directions. Can someone tell me in the SIMPLEST terms if there's a way for me to copy or watch these movies from my passport to my computer? Or I have a XBOX 360 if that would be easier?

As USAFret says you don't need to copy them to play them. Just connect it to your PC and select the file you want to play by right clicking on the start button, select explore, then look at the drives listed on the left and you should see the passport listed.
If you plug the drive in while the PC is on you should see a menu open with choices of what you want to do with it. VLC will play most anything.
As to the "not enough space" it means just that. The contents of the Passport will not fit on the unused space you have on the main drive in your PC.

You shouldn't need to copy them to your PC.

Probably they are in some format that your system does not recognize.
Install VLC. It is a pretty universal media player, and should play them.

But your other issue....attempting to copy them to the PC results in "not enough space" - You need to fix that.
