Hi,

I run an online business and am looking to expand.

I mostly deal in importing and wholesaling, and am looking for software which will track the stock levels of my supplier, and mirror that in my own system, as well as tell my website whether my supplier has a product in stock or not preferably in or close to real time or a 24 hour rotation.

So on my website I sell product X, which I dropship from my supplier in Dijibouti. The ideal software will tell the website and my inventory control software whether or not my supplier currently has product X in stock.

Hopefully this makes sense. If anyone knows a better place to ask this that would also be great.

Thanks!

Little point in asking here I would have thought..
Surely its better to ask your suppliers what software they use.. and then you can find out what software can link in to that/them.
That assumes they are happy to share that info with you...

I intended on doing that, the only thing being I am yet to find a supplier for my business expansion. I am only just beginning to look into some stuff, and software such as this is something I would like to find first.

If you do not have a supplier to connect to, there is no way to determine what software you might use to connect to this as yet non-existent supplier.

In theory you might consider going down the "open standards" route.. such as one of the EDI ("Electronic Data Interchange" IIRC) standards but its complicated/expensive for both parties. .and you don't sound like you or your suppliers are likely to be anywhere big enough to make it a worthwhile consideration.

Cheers

We would also suggest finding a supplier first. You could end up selecting a software package that suits your business requirements but then does not configure with your supplier's database.

You will run into problems whereby you will have paid X amount for software that might not work as efficiently. This could then cost you more to correct; either by purchasing another software package or paying for bespoke alterations to your current package.

We have helped a couple of clients with inventory/stock packages that integrate online sales with POS systems (not a supplier database as you require but the process was similar i.e. two systems that were required to communicate volumes of stock at a specific time etc.) If you have more of an idea of what your suppliers use/require, the more efficient the process will be and hopefully more successful!

Let us know how you get on with the suppliers!

Many companies already use it. They upload some data to the site and you can use it to view their inventory and more. They can set it up to transfer up and allow their larger clients to view the data. Very popular. As I mentioned, they may already be using it for other clients other than yourself.

As a matter of fact, there are many trade companies which can provide these products. Maybe you try to publish your procurement information in whatyouwant.cn which is free. It is useful to find the suitable and professional supplier in China. If you are interested in the Chinese suppliers and technology, try it.
