Hey everyone.

I recently completed my build using the Asus p8z77 motherboard, but am currently having issues obtaining any sort of sound. The monitor I am running is the Asus VG248QE. There has been no sound since the very beginning. Everything else is working just fine, which is why I'm so stumped. I'm just using the supplied audio cable from Asus for the monitor which is plugged into the audio-out port on my computer.

I checked BIOS to make sure the sound is enabled which seemed fine. After that, I made sure to download any drivers needed for both units and that didn't seem to solve anything. I'm not really sure where else to start as this is my first build.

I've been searching quite a bit, but the only answer I can seem to find is that it may be a motherboard issue.

Any other options I can try? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

Have you tried another sound output device (a set of PC speakers or a pair or headphones)?

Which video port are you using, also? If you're using HDMI, the monitor may be expecting the audio signal to be coming through the HDMI connector. If that's the case, just set the default audio device to HDMI.

You were absolutely right!! I needed to switch the default audio device to the HDMI monitor. First builds sure are fun eh?

I really appreciate the quick response. You made this build weekend complete!!
