Realtek Audio driver is giving me problems. I recently decided to dual boot Ubuntu 12.10 alongside my Windows 7. When I use my headphones in Ubuntu they work perfectly fine, however they don't work at all when I reboot to windows again (effectively ruling out a hardware issue). I updated the audio driver, and even uninstalled and re installed it a few times. The onboard laptop speakers do work when i use windows, just not the headphones. Help please?

if you installed ubuntu throw the setup my advice is uninstall ubuntu get the audio driver working on windows and then re-install ubuntu via the setup in windows

also what are the specs of the laptop and what model is the audio device?

The laptop is an Asus A53S i7 2670. The audio device in question is just a pair of off brand headphones, however I know those aren't the problem. I've crosschecked them with other devices, and also have tried other functional speakers I have. They all work, and they all work with Ubuntu. I'll try uninstalling Ubuntu, although I'd rather save that as a last resort because some of the programming software I have on it is a veritable sumbitch (excuse my language) to go in and reinstall and re customize.

Followed through with your suggestion, however to no avail. Both OS's are pretty much entirely self contained, which might be why. It also raises the question as to whether the ubuntu OS is even to blame...

No the driver I have is the newest one, 6.0.1.6873 released 3/29/13 for windows and I think version 3.0 for the linux distro. Should I roll back the driver to the one you gave me?
