Will my Core i5-760 Bottleneck an R9 280x?

I am looking to possibly upgrade from my two GTX 460s in SLI to (maybe) an R9 280x. I'm just curious if my Core i5-760 2.8GHz (Lynnfield) will cause an issue.

I have been considering a CPU upgrade too anyway (probably to an 8 core AMD CPU) but I wanted to ask before I make a decision.

As far as bottlenecking in games, an 8-core AMD CPU is a sidegrade from your i5-760. And it all depends on the games. An R9-280x is only slightly faster than SLI GTX 460s, so if you're not bottlenecked in whatever you're playing now then you won't be bottlenecked with your 280x.

Interesting. I haven't seen a ton of comparisons in regard to the components I have and their relation to the ones I mentioned. I'm a little surprised my 3 year old components are holding up that well

Yes, that would bottleneck. The i5 760 is slower than even the AMD FX 6300.

And the maximum that the AMD FX 6300 can push is like 7950. So, I am sorry but you might not be able to push anything more than the AMD 7950 with that CPU.

The R9-280x would be way too much for your CPU. Better get the 7950 or the 7870 Ghz Edition.

Running a 280x would create a bottleneck.

So the most powerful GPU that you can run with that CPU is the 7950. So, better grab one of those, XFX 7950 double model can be had for just 179 dollars after 30 dollar Mail-In-Rebates from newegg. So do not miss this deal.

Nope. Not at gaming.

And not very much anywhere else.

Not true at all. In fact you only need a very high end CPU for multiple graphics cards. A CPU being slow in games is not the same as a bottleneck.

The i5 760 is still a very good cpu, and overclocks like a champ.
