I just bought an hdmi to dvi cable, and i'm having trouble connecting my computer to my monitor with it. The cable works to connect my xbox to my monitor, but when I plug it into my computer it says that it receives no signal. What can I do to fix this?

Another thing to note is that it seems that the computer can sort of detect that there is a second monitor plugged in.

You can tell us a little bit more about your computer for example. Does it work with another monitor?

My computer is a laptop (an Asus G75V) and I have connected it with a regular hdmi cable to another display before without issue.

If it's already detecting the second monitor, I assume it's a problem of choosing the right resolution. Right click on the desktop and goto screen resolution. The second monitor should be displayed there. Select it and set it to the right resolution.

Try windows key + P (assuming Win 7+)

this should let you specify output for multiple displays - set it to duplicate (for testing) and see if that works.

You might also have the TV set to the wrong input (tuned to HDMI-3 but PC plugged into HDMI-2)
