There's this promo at newegg:

I was wondering if this GPU from MSI is reliable before I buy it with a RAM combo that I've been wanting. I'm having a dilemma if this GPU will last me for awhile since it will be my first build. Has anyone tried the 7870 from MSI or should I stick with other aftermarket brands. There was a promo with XFX too but I've read a few that they are notorious for having heating problems.

Any insights or GPU suggestions are appreciated.

*Budget is around 150-200.

MSI is a great brand, they are normally one of the best, if not the best cooling. All of my GPUs have been MSI in the past. The only thing is that a 7870 will not last you the entirety of 5+ years, it'll probably start runnng games on low-medium in a few years.

MSI is a reliable manufacturer (for the most part). All you need to do is check the reviews on newegg. As for how future proof it is, it's somewhat future proof. The PS4 has the equivalent of a Radeon HD 7850, so a Radeon HD 7870 GE will keep up pretty well. You could theoretically keep it for the whole lifespan of the 8th generation of consoles. But at some point you'd have to start playing at less than 1920x1080 for a lot of games if you wanted to get to 60 fps, or you could stay at 1920x1080 and just use motion blur (if the game has it) for 30 fps, but more realistically it just makes sense to upgrade after 2 years.

That's quite enticing to hear. I plan to upgrade GPUs later on anyways so I guess a year or 2 is ample of time. Would you recommend it tho for its price range? Have you never had a faulty issue with it tho? Do you happen by chance just use standard cooling to OC it? I'm still torn up if I should grab this one since it has huge savings with the combo. I

To answer your other questions, yes I have overclocked all of my MSI cards on stock cooling, and I've never run into any issues. I went from a GTX 260 -> 460 -> 560 -> 660 Ti -> 2x 780s and all of them have performed outstandingly. MSI has won my loyalty throughout the years. If you plan on upgrading in 2-3 years, a 7870 will be just fine and you made a great buy
