5830 vs 6850?

Currently I run two 5830's in crossfire. They're overclocked (don't remember exact numbers).
What kind of gains, if any, would I see with a pair of 6850's in crossfire?
Do they overclock as well (or preferably better) than the 5830?
I have a chance to get a pair of 6850's for cheap from a friend who's upgrading, just curious if it would be worth it. Performance is my only concern, not power consumption (I know they draw quite a bit less).

More or less equal. AMD came out with the 5830 to do battle with the GTX460. They are cut down 5850s on 5870 boards. The 6850 was the second card AMD came out with to battle the GTX460. This time it wasn't a cut down chip, but a chip they intended to bring out. The 6850 has much better power numbers, but performance should be similar to the 5830. I think the 6850 is really a bit faster, but unless you are getting for free then not worth the cost.

If it will add performance, I'll go for it. The specs seem less side by side on the cards, so I didn't want to take a step backwards.
I will be able to sell my 5830s for the same cost I'm getting the 6850s, so I'm not worried about spending money for small gains (as I really won't be spending money). I just want to make sure that I will see gains.

Also, I do run eyefinity with three 1920 x 1200 monitors so all the extra power I can get helps.
Eventually I'll splurge for one of the new generation cards, but since this is basically a free upgrade I think it'll get me through (again, as long as it actually IS an upgrade).

I really don't have a budget. I was considering this swap because the 6850s are practically free to me.
If I bought a new card, I wouldn't want to spend more than $200 and I would want something that would out perform the pair of 6850s. Probably not a very likely scenario.

I have mentioned in previous post that 650ti boost will outperform your 2x5830s in $150 by 15%

The cheap side of me has been over run by the sensible side.
I'm thinking of just trying to sell my pair of 5830's for $75 and bite the bullet on a nice single card.
You mentioned the 7870. What about the 7950? Or is the 7970 really worth the extra money?
And what's comparable in the nVidia camp for the $200-$250 range?

Next question:
I can get the xfx double d 7950 locally for $200 without the free games or get the powercooler version on newegg for $209 plus $30 mail in rebate and games.

While ultimately the powercooler is cheaper and has free games, I also get hit with $5 shipping and tax from newegg and have to send in the rebate.

Worth it for the xfx, or order the powercooler?

Probably depends on if you believe in the rebate. I don't even bother with them. If you want the games then get the PC version for sure. As those will cost you money. Toss in the rebate its a much better deal. If you don't care about the games and don't want to mess with rebates like me then the XFX is a great card.

I'm tempted to sell my 7950 and buy the new 280 or 760/770. Dump my 7950 while I can still get something for it, and either move up to the 280 for not much more, or go Nvidia. They got the game recording feature and I've been wanting to make some TF2 videos. This thread has me wondering...
