Hi

I have a good oc bios profile set at 4.4ghz on a p8z77 mobo however I have turbo v installed that looks to be set at 4.2ghz and is throttling the oc on a software level.

Can i back up the bios profiles to usb to be safe?

Can i uninstall turbo v and it will default to the bios oc at 4.4 or will it overwrite that profile and set it to 4.2(I really don't want it to erase/overwrite/amend the oc bios profile by doing that)?

any advice would be great, thanks

im pretty sure you can save your OC settings in the BIOS itself; turbo v will not delete those when uninstalled. only way your profiles will be deleted is when you flash your BIOS to a different version.

i had a similar issue on my maximus v extreme and simply uninstalling Turbo V did the trick. when installing turbo v, i believe it was through something called "Asus Suite II." i'm not sure if you did it the same way but, if you have issues after uninstalling the program, try using this: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?28319-AI-Suite...

hope it helps :)

Hi, thanks for the reply. The whole reason the oc reverted back was when i installed more ram. Now i have the original oc profile loaded again but with the extra ram im wondering if it might re-set again?

hmm, is the additional ram you put in a different set?

what's the brand and model? and do you know if they have XMP profiles?

Hi, I had 8gb 1600 ddr3 corsair vengence on my pre overclocked mobo bundle originally. Decided to get another 8gb exactly the same (all 4 slots are filled now). I noticed the ram was also running 665mhz but that was without XMP. Now i have re-loaded the oc profile in the bios it is showing XMP and running at 800mhz so all good I guess.

I did get the "boot mgr is missing" error after i installed it and i still have to boot from within the bios but that may be another issue i guess. Maybe that is why it reduced the clock speeds of ram and cpu but kept the cpu oc voltage?

I'm wondering if the extra 8gb of ram will/has made the oc unstable, not sure if i may be best off taking the extra 8gb ram out? or i may be able to tweak some voltages. I'm a bit of a novice!

Thanks a lot for the help too

hehe np, we were all amateurs at one point :)

the extra 8GB can certainly be causing your OC to go unstable especially because it sounds like you have all your RAM slots filled.

running 16GB of RAM in a 4x4x4x4GB configuration will stress your memory controller inside the CPU (also known as the integrated memory controller [IMC]) which in return will limit how high you can clock your CPU.

id say try raising the DRAM Voltage to 1.575v from the standard 1.5v (unless the ram modules are already running @ 1.575v or above). if that doesn't seem to make things a bit better, keep pushing the DRAM Voltage until you reach 1.65v, although, i don't recommend you exceed this value. the extra voltage can help stabilize the extra RAM modules and in best case scenario, open up room for further overclocking.

if this doesn't work, i have a couple other things we can try so let me know how it works out. :D

also, the "boot mgr is missing" error may be due to a bad stick of RAM (although it may be something else such as a bent pin in the CPU socket).

i found a thread that had a guide to fix it but, it's for windows 7: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-u...

Great, i really appreciate the help. I'll give the ram a bump to 1.575 to start with as you suggest. Although I'm determined to get this sorted it will have to be tomorrow now!

Thanks again :-)
