I was looking around for a review that compared the full WD hard drive line. I found an old article on legitreviews comparing the green and black flavors, but leaving out blue and red. I have two 1TB blacks currently for mass storage, in addition to my 256GB SSD for OS and programs. But I'm curious about whether the Black series is much better than the Blues, now that they both have 64mb cache sizes. Has anyone seen such a review anywhere? If not, I might just recommend it to THG for a story. Thanks all.

I have not seen any such article and once you start looking into drives there are other factors too which might make such an article rather large to be worth doing, such as head/platter count and platter density which can have a large impact on a drives performance.

Basically Green drives are meant for storage and spin at a bit above 5400rpm
Red drives are green drives with better support (at the firmware level) for working in raids and NAS's
Blue drives are the desktop performance drives and spin at 7200rpm
Black drives are WD top of the consumer line and spin at 7200rpm and have a 5 yr warranty instead of the typical 3yr.
