A message keeps popping up in my sys tray that says A usb device on your sys has malfunctioned & win does not reconize it. All I have hooked to usb are my wireless mouse & my wireless internet adapter, netgear 3100. Both are working fine. Can I turn off this notification somehow? It is bugging me to death!

Solution
To simply hide the icon, set it to "Always Hide" in: Right click on the Start Button \ Properties \ Taskbar \ Customize \ under Current Items; select the icon and under Behaviour; select Always hide... click Apply and OK.

In case the problem reappears: The USB device malfunction can be attributed to two possible causes: USB drivers or the device itself. You can check the drivers in the Device Manager: Start \ My Computer; right click \ Manage \ Device Manager \ Universal Serial Bus Controllers... Expand it and check if any has a yellow question or exclamation mark icon... if so, update the driver and if not,
1. see if trying different usb devices makes a difference;
2. Use different USB ports,
3. different mouse or wireless adapter...

If no change, clean the registry with CCleaner, Glary Utilities or Tune Up Utilities. If the problem persists, it's possible your system has corrupted usb driver/s... Install "SlimDrivers" to see if it detects bad drivers and/or if it finds updates for them.
