hello, i have a h90 that im trying to remove again to reapply thermal paste since im idling like at 45 on a amd fx 8350. i think last time i overtightened the screws so the holes on the back plate got warped and loosened up. so now ever-time i try remove the screw the whole silver thing silver oval thing moves and no loosening is done. how the freak do i keep the oval silver thing from moving so i can remove the screw in it???

well simply put you have to stop the blind nuts (silver oval things) from moving. note that they are recessed so you can try inserting a small slotted screwdriver in the recess to stop the blind nut from moving.there is no good way to describe this unless you have some apptitude in this area.hope this helps.

find the smallest pair of needlenose pliers you can and try that.if that doesnt work you can try bending (carefully) the ends of the blind nuts up to get a better purchase with the pliers.ive run across this so many times its a bit frustrating to try and talk someone thru it.lol.so it happens alot huh? i dont understand why the backplate is plastic. and yea i understand what you mean by bending them up to grab em haha. ive been trying different stuff for a half hour with no sucess. since the backplate is plastic and im using a small flathead to wedge it from moving, the plastic is just becoming deformed so i stopped messing with it.
