I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 that I'm taking care of, it's currently running SP3 of WinXP and runs... decently. I'd like it to run smoother.

For a friend I'm trying to give them of utilizing Linux in a simple way, I found Wary Puppy 5.5 and it seems to be one of the better options (1000 mhz cpu and 128 MB RAM). However, while I can make a bootable jump drive from Universal USB Installer 1.9.4.4. The computer won't select USB as a bootable device.

This is where I found WakePup2. I made the ISO version of it found here. It's on a DVD. Then I copied over the marker file USBFLASH and put it in the root of the jump drive. Boot up and the DVD works out... It scans. However, it never finds the USB Flash Drive. I've tried out a couple of different makes/models. The one that I'd love it work on is a 1 GB PNY Attache (I'm reading that there are some issues with this specific flash drive). However, every time... no matter which of the two ports I plug in or which Flash Drive I use, I get this screen. I can guarantee that the files listed in the picture are on the USB Flash Drive.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. I'd like to stick with not dual booting the computer, but if you think that'd be better (Or something else) and have a link to a proper guide... Let me know.

Thanks!

Edit1:
I knew I forgot something.

The one thing the person wants to use the most is the DVD drive to watch movies. I researched it a little bit and found that this method would mean that I'd have to leave the DVD containing the OS in the DVD drive and watching movies wouldn't be an option.

If I'm wrong and I can take the DVD with WaryPuppy on it out of the DVD drive while it's running, that'd be awesome. Anyone think that's the case?

He means use the DVD drive for the installation onto your hard drive.
