I can get broadband into an outbuilding on our property that sits on top of a hill approximately 300 feet from the main dwelling. I want to bring this network down to the main building, but running wire is not an option. However, there is clear line of sight. So, I think a wireless bridge is our best option.

I would appreciate suggestions on what hardware to buy. Are bridges special devices, or am I just looking at regular routers or access points in a bridge mode. (And if so, how hard is that to configure). And what about antennas - I assume I'll want directional external antennas.

Thanks in advance.

Any outdoor bridge units will work. You could try to build your own with routers and antenna but it tends to not save any money. You can get 2 outdoor units for about $70 each and there are some that are cheaper.

What you want is 2 outdoor bridges to use in point to point mode. There are a lot on the market Engenius, tp-link and many others. The ones I have personally used are made by ubiquiti called airgrid. I have run them well over 1000ft with no issues and they are easy to setup. Most brands should work very similar so size and appearance may be more important when you are going such a short distance.
