PSU fried, is the rest of my CPU dead also?

Long time listener, first time caller. I need some advice. I was playing battlefield 4 the other day when I heard some popping in my CPU and everything went dead, no life at all. I took out my PSU and jumpered it, no signs of life. After combing my pc I haven't found any components singed, blackened, warped or anything. So I guess my question is where do I go from here? Replace the PSU and keep my fingers crossed? Start rebuilding component by component or just get a whole new pc?

When your psu died it may have sent out a surge of electricity to the motherboard. The odds are small, but your motherboard may have to be at least replaced. If you can, borrow a buddies psu and see if it works.

If the PSU was good, then your system is safe. They are designed to fry themselves before the rest of your stuff does.

As people said, since you will need new PSU anyway - go get one and see how it goes. Or maybe you can tear one off you another computer/friend/work and check it yourself to see if it's ok.

In some parts of the world (and by some users Stateside for that matter), the term CPU refers to the computer itself(the case/chassis with all of the goodies stuffed in it). Just one of those colloquialisms.

Sure, but it's downright confusing when posting here.

A: My CPU isn't working!

B: What's the make and model of it?

A: It's a Dell.

B: -_-

Know what I'm saying?
