My laptop is an Alienware M14x - R2, i am having some problems running certain video games almost as if i don't have sufficient video memory. On my laptop there are 2 video cards: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 & nVidia Geforce GT 650M. I'v already tried to change it using the nVidia control panel (set the option GLOBAL, so that every application will use my Geforce) but I don't think its working because on certain games i have huge framerate drops.

Just like the title says i can not change it trough BIOS because i simply do not have any option regarding any of the video cards.

Also tryed disabling the on board Intel graphics card - useless, after restart windows runed on software video and it made things worst... like i couldn't even run nVidia CP or start any aplication that required direct X.
Same story with uninstalling the Intel Driver, windows update just keeps reinstalling always after restart. (but i think that disabling or uninstalling the Intel drivers for the video card just wont be enough, i need to make the Laptop somehow use the 1GB dedicatev video memory from nVidia).

If necesary i can also provide the name of the Game I most likely want to play so you can check on the minimum specs, also i can provide my laptop specs (i'm not an IT engineer but i know a few things about these machines :p)

Thank you in advance if any questions please let me know i will do all i can to assist in trying to help me!

Hi, Well i have a Desktop with Radeon X1250 will work because Operating Systems are the same, Recently got a Radeon 4850 and I used this and it worked assuming you have windows.

1)Right Click Computer>Properties>Device Manager>Display Adapters> With a dropdown Box Should show your Intel HD 4000 and your Nvidia 650M>Right click the one you DON'T want to use and click Properties>Disable WARNING FIRST YOU SHOULD INSTALL THE LATEST DRIVERS FOR THE DRIVER YOU WANT TO USE! But if you've already got the drivers you are good to go mate.
Good Luck! :D

Thx for the reply, but...

If you read up i already tried to DISABLE the one i don't need, windows 7 home basic x64 i have, wont use the other video card, it will go VGA software mode until i enable the intel on board graphics card.

So it doesn't help, even worst its not letting me run any aplication that requires directX. I get a error message that "can not run application because there is no direct X".

THERE IS directX.... if i run a "dxdiag" it says i have directX 11 but when i go to display on every field i get N/A or unavailable.

:pfff:
