Long story short I made a stupid mistake of leaving an extra standoff in when moving my motherboard to a new case.
I powered (and tried to power) the computer on multiple times (all of during which the computer automatically shut itself off either immediately or after a few minutes at the desktop) and on one occasion the computer powered itself on/immediately off until I finally quit.
I never smelled smoke or heard any popping noises-- the computer just always shut itself off. I haven't had the chance to check whether or not there is any visible damage on the board yet.
After moving everything back to the original case, everything works fine but it seems that on startup certain things take a lot longer to load, such as the network adapter.
I booted in safe mode and determined this is more than likely a software rather than hardware issue, but I'm still concerned.
What are the odds this short circuiting permanently damaged the motherboard, CPU, hard drive, or graphics card?
