hp dv7 laptop failing to detect amd gpu hardware

hi, i wanted some more gpu juice so updated to latest amd drivers before using an overclocker. But after reboot, it started up with the onboard intel gpu instead and ccc (amd command control center) fails to startup.

i tried restoring original driver using device managers' restore but no change, (Rollback Driver)
tried amd websites detect hardware tool and installing driver but that program says no amd gpu hardware is found.
tried to install all programs (driver and ccc) manually via amd's website,failed too again saying no amd gpu was detected
next saw a post saying HP laptops require drivers from their own website which are often outdated and rarely updated, same no hardware detected error.
finally heard about and went on to hp recovery manager to restore original driver, no change again

laptop: model: dv7-6b51ea, readeon 6490M, intel i7-2670QM 2.20GHz, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium, intel gpu is Intel HD 3000

There should be a "Rollback Driver" Option on the Device Manager (In the Computer Section) Should be under Display Adapters or something similar, and click your drivers Properties and Click Rollback Driver Hope this helped :D

I found this online someone with the same problem fixed it for many others.
First off, reboot and press F10 to go into your BIOS.

Switch the Graphics settings from "dynamic" to "fixed". This will ensure that your computer will not use the default Intel card. I'm not sure why, but it seems as though it kept using that card regardless in Windows.
Try this if it dont help just keep searching Good Luck :)

ok so played around with plenty other solutions which didn't work because i could not enter and successfully install catalyst command center to change 'switchable graphics'

1- BIOS: set Graphics Mode to Fixed

2- unistall CCC using Microsoft FixIt tool
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Reboot

3- install old/original amd gpu driver from hp website sp53404.exe

'Run as Admin', custom install, even though all options are checked, must select 'Catalyst Control Center'

4- install driver from AMD website with same method as above

Reboot

5- CCC now works finally and can Right-click desktop,select 'Configure Switchable Graphics' and select/apply 'High Performance GPU'

SUCCESS

Test> go to Windows Experience Index, take note of gpu and aero scores which were 5.4/5.9, Re-run Assessment and the scores will jump up from the scores of the previous Intel GPU to the higher scores of the AMD GPU which are now 6.5/6.5

=)

Thanks for suggestions and awesome to finally have this solved without forking out £££ having a professional look at it from where i bought it couple years back
