My son is setting up a ASRock Z77 with a Gigabyte Geforce 670 graphics card. The card appears to be powering up (fans are running) but when I go to install the drivers, the installer says it doesn't detect the hardware. System also didn't start in the default VGA mode, I had to use the DVI on the mobo. The 670 has the two power ports, a six and eight prong. His PSU had a six and two four prong power cords, so I used the included adapter to get power from two other plugs and create the 8 prong cord.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay long and try to sort this out. Is there anything I should try or something blatantly wrong that I should go after, or is it a bad card? After I left he told me that there were issues with having the 670 and having the mobo DVI blank out, but I didn't see that. He now has it running off the mobo VGA.

That should have a 6pin PCI-E and an 6+2pin PCI-E. Connect them up and see if there is display. If nothing then use the onboard display and update all drivers of graphics card in device manager.

There's also the two four prongs I remember seeing, those looked like they would fit if the volts are ok. I'll get him to try the 6x2; I think he has an IT friend coming to look at it.

He tried the 6+2 last night; no changes. Guess its DOA.
