Im looking at two laptops and they are pretty much the same in specs, and price is only a little different but Im behind on my cpu's so Im wondering if one would offr a great deal of difference over the other. They both will have 8gb of ddr3 ram and both run windows 7 home 64bit.

Core i3 i3-2348M 2.30 GHz Dual-core (2 Core)

vs.

Celeron 1000M 1.80 GHz Dual-core (2 Core)

the celeron is going to be cheaper than the i3, but the i3 is going to give you much better performance. if there isn't much difference in price for you then go with the i3.

where are you finding these laptops? that i3 is an older sandy bridge based cpu. its still a great dual core but there is ivy bridge and haswell now. although the performance isn't much higher with the newer cpus, the efficiency is much better and battery life gets better too.

I would go for the laptop with the Sandy Bridge Core i3 CPU instead of the Celeron 1000m CPU based on the more recent Ivy Bridge CPU. The Core i3 has more performance which means it should last you longer before you feel that it is too slow for your needs and want to buy a new laptop.

The i3 has an Intel HD 3000 graphics core. While it is a weak integrated graphics core, it is stronger than the Celeron's Intel HD (no model #) graphics core. Generally making it more capable of video playback and even capable of playing some older games that are not very graphics demanding.

They are both acer laptops. I am getting her a new laptop for Christmas and I cant really afford a super nice one so I was going for most bang for my buck. I can get one of these, a faster hard drive and double the ram and still be within budget.

My goal was to get 64bit win 7, a led backlit monitor and get something that would be good for what she uses it for.

Although Im not sure about the core 13 one, I cant find any damn review on it, but the other one I can find a lot of great reviews.
