Last night I decided to update from windows 8 enterprise to 8.1 enterprise. Ran into an issue.
My setup:
Crosshair v formula-z
Dual 7970's
When I upgraded to 8.1 windows was not recognizing my drivers so I was unable to properly set screen overscan and resolution. Also because of this catalyst control center aka amd vision control center would not recognize any of the cards let alone crossfire. I tried just rolling back the drivers and then reinstalling newer drivers with no success.
Looking at older forums I saw people were having the same issue from windows 7 to 8. The most successful thing I found from multiple forums was uninstalling everything AMD with the uninstall all option. I proceeded to use "express" settings. Little did I know that included in the uninstall all option is USB drivers. The uninstall all option removed all my USB drivers. From then on I was unable to use a mouse and keyboard in windows. I tried to go into safe mode, did not work in safe mode, I tried repairing windows, no go. I couldn't install drivers from my dvd drive because I couldn't use a mouse or keyboard.
Luckily, I have just my os on it's own ssd, so reinstalling windows from scratch was not that big of a deal. It was still a huge PITA though.
Be careful if you are making the upgrade, and please, if you have to uninstall all AMD software choose "custom" and make sure you deselect the "USB driver" option for the uninstall. It can and will bite you.
