Hi.

I really hope that someone can help me. I had problems with my Sony laptop this morning - I couldn't log in and all that I could see was a blank screen. I opted for the refresh option and I knew that it would delete applications and programes like Windows. However, when the system reloaded my entire user drive and all personal files (documents, pictures, music) were all deleted and I cannot access them anywhere. Moreover, I cannot access the c drive (access restricted).

Please can someone help me.

Did you restore to its factory "out of the box" state? If so, you overwrote all of your files (hopefully you have a backup).

Hi there, thanks so much for your answer. I don't think that I set it to the out of the box state. I just found some of my files via the documents and pictures folder but I can't get any of the other folders which were in my user account. I have my most important files backed up but I would dearly like to access my other folders in my directory.

Most importantly, I cannot access the c drive - when I doublt click on the c drive it tells me that access is denied. Would you know how to overcome this?

Thanks so much

This sounds like a permissions issue. Is there more than one account on this computer?

Thanks again. I went through the instructions but I'm still being denied access unfortunately. I followed the instructions but when I try to click the apply bar it says "unable to set new owner on local disk c:"

I'm really stuck now.

Thanks very much COLGeek for your advice. I managed to reset the ownership of the c drive back to me - it took a very long time but I managed to do it and I've now got full control with my personal files intact.
