I've been reading threads off and on for over a month on here and I think, I've done enough homework to post. :) This will be my first build.
My computer needs: I will run two screens, on occasion ONLY (use MatLab, Solidworks, and LtSpice). I always have about 10 different chrome tabs going, and use Microsoft outlook and excel

I need your guys yea or nay on the components. I have tough skin, shoot it to me straight! :D:D

Last thing, I figured I could always add more memory if needed, that's why I went with the 4GB. I have the SSD to run the OS, but don't know if I should add an HDD. I current have a 3TB NAS.

Thank you soooo much for your help!!!!!

I would go with the AMD build BUT dont buy an FM2 motherboard . Get FM2+ so you have the option to update to next generation processors that AMD will release soon . FM2+ boards can still run your current processor.
I would tend to build using m-ATX since most people dont need and never use 7 expansion slots so your mb best choice is probably

+1 for the corsair CX 430

- 240 million for the NZXT gamma case . Its an organised pile of junk
ok...

1) amd cpus love paired ram... so whenever possible get 2 stick kits. (intels generally couldn't care one way or another)

2) I don't trust or suggest anyone get any asrock motherboard on the fm2 platform. Not sure what asrock was doing with this platform but they had a LOT of quality control issues with their boards. Get a gigabyte or asus if you want quality, an msi if you want cheap. avoid asrock on the FM2 platform.

3) i would get a quad core like an a8 or a10... those chips are significantly more powerful then the a6 lineup, and if you eventually want to do a little gaming the drastically improved igpu on those chips will make a world of difference.

4) use windows 8 before you buy it. there is no harm getting win7 if you don't like it.

I would go with 2x2 ram instead of 1x4, ram works better in pairs.

Cooler master does not make good power supplies, but you might be safe with the 500w because you shouldn't get anywhere near its limit. I personally wouldn't trust it though.

My suggestion because you mentioned two screens and running graphically intense applications. The NAS is fine.

I changed the mobo, but I really don't know how to pick one.. I just sort it in pcPicker and choose the one with the most star rating. (terrible, I know) . I also changed the case and the Power supply. I thought the A8 was a quad.?

I ordered from [Amazon-Prime(SSD Wrist Band,Memory)], [Newegg,(PSU,Case,DVD drive)] and [Superbiiz (Mobo, processor)]. Total out of pocket $543.35 . Actually $543.35 - $45.00 mail in rebate = $498.35 , but who knows if I will ever see that rebate check! haha. Operating System is NOT in the total, because I may get it free via the engineering program at my University..
