Hey guys, I recently finished building my new PC but just noticed that I made quite a big mistake. There is only one PCIe (x16) slot on the board, meaning that SLI/Crossfire is not possible. The holiday season is rounding the corner, and I was planning on adding a Radeon HD 7850 to my build to give my 7870 a bit of breathing room. So, in order to solve my issue, I need to transfer my CPU to a new MB. I have heard rumors from my friends that this is possible, but is it something that is very dangerous? I mean, is it worth it to go for the new board/gpu? Or is the transfer as simple as it looks? I need to know what I would need to do. I am guessing that I would probably need to remove and reapply thermal paste as well.

Solution
Why buy a 7850 and not a second 7870?! It will downclock it self so it runs in the same speed as the lowest of the two gpu's. So you will end up with two 7850 more or less. (you could overclock the 7850 to 7870 speeds though)

And no its not that dangerous as you think. Except if there is C4 or nitroglycerin planted somewhere in the computer, then yes its dangerous.

The trickiest part of all is to install the cpu again which yes it requires you to reapply thermal paste.
