HP Pavilion m8000n
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06a/12132708-...

cpu: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5200+ 2.6GHz, 1MB+1MB L2 Cache, 2000MHz System Bus

gpu: GEFORCE GTX550 Ti 2048MB GDDR5

ram: 2GB DDR2-SDRAM

I'm guessing he's trying to fix his old rig because he's said it's broken. he already has a new gpu (listed above) and a new psu. i recommended upgrading ram as his next purchase after he gets the mobo. he's trying to find a mobo under $100. I found one that seems really good on newegg, he said he'd have to get a 6 pin pci express power connector for his gpu and i didn't know anything about that. he said he wanted a mobo for under $100 with pci x16 and preferably pci 2.0 and this seems to meet all criteria:

should I recommend it for him to buy?

The power supply has the 6-pin connector not the motherboard.

It is a decent power supply motherboard for an aging computer like your friends. It will work! Just let him know that he will be wanting to upgrade his computer as soon as possible. Your friend will also need to re-install windows once he install the new motherboard or he will experience quite a few issues.

Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

okay, thank you very much! I just needed a verification and after all of the positive reviews and feedback on newegg it definitely seems like a good recommendation, asus is great and 4/5 stars with a lot of raters is good too

and i'll let him know about that 6-pin connector! hopefully he knows more about it than me
