I want to back up my computer to a 1tb external ssd. My understanding is that ssd's are more reliable, faster, and then of course also more expensive. So why wouldn't I pay less and get this...

and an internal drive

instead of a an external one? thx in advance. :)

Primarily because:
My understanding was that the lack of mechanical parts made it less likely to fail.
Secondarily:
I've never thought my computer did something to fast, i just want to be sure that all my equipment can keep up.

Do you think this unwise?

Well...a 1TB SSD is $500 and up.
A 1TB HDD is around $60. 2 of them, for rotating backups (1 offsite at all times), is 20% of that SSD price.

Yes, the SSD is probably more reliable. But 2 copies of your data is far more reliable than that. Especially with drives not in constant use.
