I'm looking to buy a new router, with my budget being $50-$100 USD.
Sadly I know very little when it comes to routers.

Current router: Belkin F7D2301

Things I do: Play games, download games, stream movies, and forums. Nothing very demanding as far as I can tell.
Another laptop is used for streaming mainly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. So far I've been suggested this.

You will find very little difference between any of the larger brands of routers. If your current nic cards cannot use the 5g band then it does little good to shop for dual band routers. If you can run in the 5g band with your end devices maybe it will help if your problem is interference in the 2.4g band. Still do not get into chasing the biggest number game the vendors try to trick you into. Your network will only run as fast as your internet.

Still I would just search newegg or amazon and set a price limit. You will find similar reviews on just about every product so you need to make the call which is best. Most the difference in price are related to extra features like NAS support or VPN or something like that. The base...
So why do you think you need a new router.

The one you have will likely perform the same as any new ones. If your traffic is only going to the internet buying a faster router will make no difference. You can already do 300m in theory but what good does it do to go to 1300m if your internet connection is only say 20m. You will still run at 20m maximum.

The router is only half the issue anyway. All the nic cards in your devices must also support the newer protocols. Even now it is likely many do not support 300m but only do 150m or even less.

The only thing a newer router would have the one you have does not is support for 5g. If you are getting interference from neighbors it might help but 5g has much less coverage in most houses so you trade signal strength for interference sometimes. Again your end devices must also support the 5g or you are wasting your money to buy a router that supports it when you end devices do not.

I need a new router because my current one cuts out at times and often slows down when I'm actively using the internet.
Now that could be my ISP, but after multiple calls to them, I don't think it is. I've not done any proper testing, but it seems like after a certain amount of time of playing an online game, it decides to just give up and my ping goes insanely high. Restarting the router momentarily fixes that but it returns soon enough.

Any solutions for those issues would be welcome.
