I run PD 11 and it supports multi-GPU hardware.

I would go with a single card for that program. The 780 is a beast. I'm actually considering both of the scenarios that you are. Since I can use either with PD, I think I'm just going to wait for a small price war with AMD over their upcoming 290x.

I want to see where pricing ends up and then make the call.

FWIW I recently forgot to enable SLI after a driver update (two 560's) and noticed how "smooth" lower FPS can feel when it's just a single card. If a single card is within 5-10 FPS of an SLI setup for similar money, I would prefer the single card. (assuming both setups can stay over 30FPS while gaming)
