that would depend on if the computer that originally had windows 7 was a custom built or prebuilt system?
prebuilt OS's are pretty much stuck to that motherboard.

You should be able to, you MUST use an OEM installation disk, and the windows 7 key from the sticker and it should work. Ive done it a few times.

With windows 7 OEM the license is tied to the first motherboard it's installed on.With Windows 8 you can move it to another build when you are done with this one , but only one computer at a time.With Windows 8 0EM you can change all the hardware you want including the motherboard.
OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

i acknowledge that is what the website says. but just to make sure i know what im talking about it just did the act in question. I took a win 7 key from an asus laptop, installed win 7 on a toshiba that originally had vista, and the key worked. its activated no hacks, no nothing. also did the same with xp, worked as well. had to use the phone a couple times, it seems once its been activated 2+ times it wants the phone deal. Ive even had it ask me how many times i installed the key, if you say 0 it will let you through.
i voice no opinion of the legality, and or morality of such an act. but it is in fact possible.
