Had an issue with a PSU (Apevia 650W) in my new build (First build).
Recently added an extra GPU and 2 weeks later the PSU died, PC shutdown mid game and the PC wouldn't turn back on. I Removed the GPU and swapped the new (dead) PSU with an old PSU and the PC turned on for a few seconds but turned off again. I figure this to be caused by insufficient power from the old 350watt PSU. I figure everything else is fine aside from the PSU.
My questions:
#1: I'd like to know how many watts would be sufficient for my build.
#2: My mobo supports 3 way SLI but there isn't enough space between the bottom mounted PSU and the 3rd PCI-E slot to fit a GPU so I use the top two slots for my GPUs, is this typical or safe? There seems to be adequate room between the two cards for heat dissipation and proper air flow and have not run into any problems minus the previously stated PSU issue.

Asus Blu-Ray, DVD+RW,CD+RW combo
